Emotions can be a tricky challenge to navigate, and, in the case of BBC Radio 1-featured Northern Indie Pop band FLYNT, some direction has been added with the aid of a car indicator! For ‘Do I’ – their brand new single that arrived on June 24th – the band have just produced a tender and poppy ballad that mixes heart-felt subject matter with the Northern brewed upbeat and quirky pop/rock sound that has adorned FLYNT to diverse legions of dedicated fans already.
‘Do I’ follows FLYNT’s previous successes including their critically acclaimed live sessions for BBC Music Introducing in Cumbria at Maida Vale Studios and their numerous feature spots on BBC Radio 1. To tease the meaning of their new track – which is set to take the UK’s indie rock scene by storm – FLYNT say, “We basically are obsessed with heartbreak. We love wondering why and how things end up in such a bad way. We get a kick out of writing songs that sound energetic and happy… but really, really aren’t“, in their own playful words for the press statement.
Success did not come easy for FLYNT – with the group’s achievements reading out like a true underdog story. Brad Kavanagh, the vocalist, was dropped as a solo artist from Warner Records years ago and he was left creatively adrift. After deciding to pair up with primary school teacher Emma as the co-vocalist, and a band of misfits to back them up, FLYNT gave new inspiration that proved a testament to success and they never needed the backing of a major label to fulfill their ambitions, after all of that trauma. Now, with ‘Do I’, FLYNT have demonstrated their charming and thoughtful sound with a fresh offering that you can pour out your heart to in your car once again.
A meditative take on the challenges that we face as we seek to find purpose and direction in our lives, the introspective indie pop group explore the challenges and the tragedies that we face day-to-day with the backing of an infectiously optimistic score. The acoustic-based harmonies are bright and warm, while the polished synths and the emotive vocals clearly show that there is more to FLYNT than just upbeat energy throughout the memorable, relatable lyrics of the single.
