Judith Owen has built her recent work around rediscovery, reinvention and personality, and “Suit Yourself” continues that path. The album, scheduled for April 24, 2026, through Twanky Records, mines jazz and blues traditions while reshaping the songs through Owen’s vocal presence and arrangements.
The record includes “Evil Gal Blues,” associated with Aretha Franklin, “For You My Love,” connected to Nellie Lutcher, and “Since I Fell For You,” famously recorded by Etta James. Rather than treating these songs as museum pieces, Owen places them inside a vivid contemporary setting that draws on swing, blues, gospel and big-band power.
The album’s first single, “That’s Why I Love My Baby,” is described as sexy and sophisticated, setting the tone for a project full of musical character. Other tracks include “Blue Skies,” “To Your Door,” “If I Were A Bell,” “Moanin’,” “Shall We Dance?” and “Spooky.”
“Suit Yourself” brings together Owen’s work as a vocalist, pianist, arranger and interpreter. Its combination of smaller-band intimacy and big-band force reflects the range that has defined her recent releases and her increasingly acclaimed live performances.
