Family, heritage, and remembrance shape the emotional foundation of Laura Mazon Franqui’s forthcoming album Rojo. The Cuban classical guitarist will release the recording on May 29, 2026, with Prima Classic, presenting a program rooted in Hispanic and Latin American classical guitar repertoire.
The album is dedicated especially to Franqui’s grandfather, grandmother, and aunt, whose encouragement and love profoundly influenced her path. This dedication gives Rojo a personal dimension beyond its repertoire, transforming the recording into a tribute to those who helped make her artistic dreams possible.
Musically, the album features works by Francisco Tárrega, Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Joaquín Turina, Jorge Morel, Carlos Rafael Rivera, and Claudia Montero. These composers reflect the cultural breadth of Franqui’s influences, connecting Spanish guitar tradition, Cuban identity, Latin American sound worlds, and contemporary composition.
Franqui’s broader career has included performances at venues such as the Mid-Manhattan Library, Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, Gusman Concert Hall, Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, Eccles Theater, and Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
